Labor Day Fun

We roasted hot dogs and made smores and fed the fowl. What more could a kid want? How about a 3 mile hike! We hiked Tubbs Hill, which is a beautiful wilderness, right in the middle of town. It is surrounded by Lake Coeur d'alene and offers some magnificent views. The kids were so excited, for about 30 minutes. After that they began to wonder outloud when it was going to be over. We started to worry when we heard Owen say "I would rather be eating a big pancake". Then, "I am sooooooo hungry (he had just eaten 2 hotdogs and 2 smores an hour before). And finally "I am so thirsty my heart is breaking". From there it got worse, and at one point he was crawling on the ground, saying that he was not going to walk anymore. Regardless of that drama, we had a great time. It was a bit too long for the kids, but they survived and said they had fun. Especially since we bribed them to keep walking with hopes of ice cream. We saw a baby osprey and its nest, walked a swinging bridge, and saw many a spider and poisonous (probably) berries.

Your kids are seriously so dang funny! They'd better get used to long hikes since they have parents who go on 25-50 mile bike rides like it is nothing! You guys sure live in an awesome area! Glad you are taking advantage of the beauty!
