Albuquerque's 35th Annual Balloon Fiesta

This past weekend we were able to attend the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. It was defenitely worth waking up at 4:00 a.m., and braving the rain. It is a spectacular sight to see, hundreds of hot air balloons floating above you in the sky.

We arrived at the park at about 5:00 a.m., and grabbed some award winning green chile breakfast burritos, at least that is what the sign said! It then started to rain, and was fairly steady for almost two hours. The rain finally tapered off, and we were able to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the mountains. The balloon lift off, or mass ascension, as they call it, started sometime after 7:00 a.m. A bonus at this festival, is that you can walk on the field amongst the balloons. There are no restrictions, so you can go up to the pilots and talk to them, if you wanted.
Owen's favorite balloon, of course, was the spiderman one. We watched this balloon for quite a while, from the time they were blowing it up, until they fired it up and took off. We all had a great time. It is defenitely an event we will attend again!
